Sanctuary

Its that time of the year when I think a lot more about house and home.  Time for a warm, cozy nest to return to.  Time for a home that is safe from the elements. Time for a sanctuary in which to curl up for the upcoming winter.

The creatures know this - as they create a hole in a tree, or a nest high above ground.

Nomads who move with the seasons take their homes with them.

We all need shelter for  we are not made to live out among the elements.

I am both thankful for my home but also feel a bit guilty that there are so many people who have no place they can call home.  Perhaps that is even more reason for me to savor the safety of a home while continuing to do the little that I toward home and sanctuary for every person and creature on earth.

"The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned." - Maya Angelou

  1. Another thought provoking post. Pretty soon our windows will be closed for the season, screens removed and windows washed. Cleaning top to bottom, sealing the cracks, weatherproofing where possible. Kind of like a cocoon. Waiting...for what? Well, spring of course, lol. Just like the wheels on the bus, so goes the earth.;

    Have a great weekend....I'll be weatherproofing.

  2. I agree with Carol, thought provoking, but wait...windows washed?! Not sure about agreeing with that. They need it, but someone may need to be hired these days. This post reminds me of the trend toward minimalist living. I like that.

  4. such an opposite reaction to the coming of spring when we open windows and shake out the cobwebs! With the first hints of fall I long for stews and soups and cuddly quilts with a good book. May we all be safe at home and prayers for those without that they may find a good place to stay safe and warm.

  5. Home, and the Danish concept of "hygge". Both well worth building and helping others build...

  7. Love this time of year, even though it isn't really cool here yet, the shadows have changed and it is getting dark earlier. I know cooler weather will be here soon. And home does seem cozier!
