"Purple Crowned Flutterby"

Oh my, the rarest of rare - probably never to be seen again.  The Purple Crowned Flutterby.  She hides her decorated breast in her nest.

These nesting Flutterby's are very quiet -- I'm sure trying to protect their nests.  However, considering how messy the nests are, I doubt if any other species would want to steal them.

I offered her a place inside, which would be safe, but after an hour or two she said "what good is it being a bird if I'm not able to fly?"  Very good point Miss Flutterby - very good point indeed.

  1. Freedom to be herself. I wonder if she has a mate?

  2. Her nest may be messy, but the colors are wonderful. Surely other birds are envious!

  3. Clearly she knows her own mind, this one!

  4. I think many other birds would love a nest as pretty as this.

  5. Penny, I'm enjoying the way your creations are bringing forth comments as if they are real! To me, that is the highest compliment for your imaginative work. Blog viewers are moved to react to your pieces as if they are live personalities: freedom to be herself, other birds are envious, knows her own mind, and so on. It's absolutely delightful! I want to go now and re-read past comments to see if my observation holds true with them as well.

  6. I'm intrigued by her 'decorated breast' and why she should hide it away...

  7. Yay Barb!! You said it perfectly...Now lets get on to Flutterby Observation. The Purple Crowned Flutterby IS the rarest of rare in viewing only. There are many of them hiding far into the woods. Their nests may be messy, but the PCF seeks out only the most beautiful fibers and bits to create their nests. You have merely captured the work in process. Their nest is much sought after by other birds who have been known to cast out any eggs found inside and steal the nest for their own. they steal them thinking their own baby birds will then have that wonderful purple crown. Silly Birds. Watch out for Blue Jay Flutterby to be somewhere near. They are the most diligent in the PCF hunt!!

  8. Lol, Carol! And thanks for the additional fun Flutterby imaginative adventure. So, just like your hiding dogs, Flutterbys hide things like their nests. You and Penny are an artistic and literary team. Blue Jay Flutterby should have a mean-ish determined look, kinda like Angry Birds have.

  9. Okay - I had to answer you two here on the blog itself!! What marvelous fun to continue the Flutterby story. You're making the story telling even richer (although we have to suspend disbelief a bit *smile*. -- Penny

  11. My nest is a little bit messy too, but it's all mine, and I love it like no other place on earth! I like a bird who knows her own mind :)
