"Purple Crowned Flutterby"

Oh my, the rarest of rare - probably never to be seen again.  The Purple Crowned Flutterby.  She hides her decorated breast in her nest.

These nesting Flutterby's are very quiet -- I'm sure trying to protect their nests.  However, considering how messy the nests are, I doubt if any other species would want to steal them.

I offered her a place inside, which would be safe, but after an hour or two she said "what good is it being a bird if I'm not able to fly?"  Very good point Miss Flutterby - very good point indeed.

"White Crowned Flutterby"

Look what I spotted on her nest the other day.  That rarest of rare, or at least to me, the White Crowned Flutterby.  And what a nest it is -  threads going this way and that way.  Hey wait a minute, isn't that the green thread I've been looking for?  Hmmm...

I told her she looks quite serene and she just quietly nodded, which sort of rocked her nest.

She's so quiet that she hides her floral gusset - one must pick her up to see it.  And so I did and loved the feel of this quiet, silent bird in the palm of my hand.

"Ribbon Tailed Flutterby"

Another little bird has come my way.  This one is perched - and for a very good reason.  She explained to me that her branch of the Flutterby's was never meant to fly.  Hmmm a non-flying bird.  But then I noticed how small her wings are so perhaps therein lies the answer.

Happily her 'musical wings' must mean that she can sing.  However, I have never heard
her do that either.  Does she sing in the middle of the night when no one is around?  Does she long to fly as other Flutterby's are prone to do?  I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
