All around me...

...I see the colors of rust and tea dyed cloth and hot apple cider.

Our Birch tree looks like the leaves have clung to its trunk - or it has been decoupaged by a somewhat incompetent 'paster'.  This is actually the layers of the trunk slowly changing color and releasing themselves from the bark.

I see all of the leaves which sheltered us during the summer now laying on the ground, ready to decay into the earth beneath them.

Some would look at this 'weedy mess' and see just that.  But you and I see the colors and the textures and its all quite beautiful isn't it.

"Now Autumn's fire burns slowly along the woods and day by day the dead leaves fall and melt." - William Allingham

  2. I agree, especially amazing birch bark! The colors are indeed lovely. Our colors have turned mostly brown now, but my rust-dyeing has kept your colors in front of me. :) still don't know what I will do with this cloths yet.

  3. I was admiring the Japanese maple leaves in the garden yesterday. :)

I've used the birch bark on fabric post cards and for different doll projects in the past. Using an old sewing machine needle, it is like sewing paper.

  4. Yes, it IS beautiful. Now picture the last picture with a huge black cat in the middle of it watching your house. That is a scene I have viewed everyday this week as the neighbor's cat comes over to see how long he can sit there before one of the dogs spots him...then the race is on!

  5. Fabulous colours - we have blues and silvery greys this morning after a hard frost in the night. My little one is wishing for snow!

I think it is a gift and a blessing to be able to see the beauty in nature as you do. Thank you for always sharing such a thoughtful and meditative perspective :)
