What next?

I have to wonder about the business that goes on inside my head.  The thoughts and ideas roam around up there willy-nilly.  Sometimes they make perfect sense and I feel as if I'm guided. Sometimes they make only some sense and send me down another road.  I envy those who find their voice early on and follow it with a devotion to the art they have chosen.

I do know myself quite well however.  You know how sometimes your throat feels scratchy and you just know you're coming down with something?  How you almost foresee a fall, immediately before tripping on the pavement?  That is how it is for me with my creativity.

Recently, as I worked on a house-to-be, it came over me - is it a shadow or is it a window opening?  I'm not quite sure.  But I knew that this house that I was stitching was not to be, at least at this time.  That I needed to break out of house building and move on to something else.  Could it be that when it comes to the work of my hands I'm just naturally capricious?

  1. Yes! That's how I am with doll making. I KNOW it's one of the things I will do again (not ways true of other things) but just not at this time. I like saying that word capricious. ;) It rolls off the tongue quite easily.

  3. Remember that what inspires you affects the methods and images you use to depict it, as well. Maybe not capricious, but adaptable?

  4. Oh gosh! You have hit on an issue that really resonates with me! I am interested in so many different things! It's hard to settle on just one. My curiosity, love of learning, and the thrill I get from a new challenge propel me ever onward. I think of myself as not just a stitcher, not just a painter, not just a crafter, but a CREATIVE. And that gives me permission to follow anything that interests me and can hold my attention for more than a few minutes!! Oh, I could go on and on, but I guess I've said enough! LOL!

  6. That's what makes the process so exciting, the sudden dart of interest in something else and moving onto something fresh and new. I love it!
