Sanctuary

Its that time of the year when I think a lot more about house and home.  Time for a warm, cozy nest to return to.  Time for a home that is safe from the elements. Time for a sanctuary in which to curl up for the upcoming winter.

The creatures know this - as they create a hole in a tree, or a nest high above ground.

Nomads who move with the seasons take their homes with them.

We all need shelter for  we are not made to live out among the elements.

I am both thankful for my home but also feel a bit guilty that there are so many people who have no place they can call home.  Perhaps that is even more reason for me to savor the safety of a home while continuing to do the little that I toward home and sanctuary for every person and creature on earth.

Kerry Keyes

Only recently has Kerry moved out of the family  home to live ‘on her own’  - for the very first time I might add. Her very protective parents took a lot of convincing that she could do this. You see  sometimes Kerry is a bit on the befuddled side.

When the boarding house opened she just knew it would be a good place for her.  Oh heaven!  To have her own nest up on the second floor where she can come and go as she pleases.  Yes, It’s only a room in the boarding house – but sometimes that’s all a person needs.

These days, when she wanders around town, she wears her room key around her neck and carries her map in her pocket -- just in case.

Back home...

...in my nest.  No matter how wonderful, fun, exciting travel is -- I always take a deep breath when I'm back in my own little nest.  Where everything is familiar, where my studio always awaits me, where my little daily routines are back in effect.  Its truly nice to be home.

"Home"

A touch of 'home' with this petite pocket.  How many times during my life have I put the key in the lock of a new home -- trepidation, excitement, looking forward to making this place at this time our very own nest.

As Penny Berens recently pointed out I'm beginning to have 'plentiful pockets' hanging about here in my studio.
