Hydrangeas

Summer is here and the hydrangeas in our yard are celebrating.

I love their passion for life.  Are they not the Mae West of flowers?  Blowsy, outgoing, colorful -- you cannot pass them by without stopping.

As the morning sun hits them I can see the new ones, just coming on, with their very delicate flowers, and the full blown flowers with drops of last night's rain on their petals.

I celebrate along with them -- with a full heart of thankfulness.

"Flowers...are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty outvalues all the utilities of the world." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. They are beautiful. I'm not crazy about their round shape. I tend to like bell shaped flowers. But what I love about Hydrangeas is their marvelous colors. Delicate but vibrant. No other flower that I can think of has that quality. Yours are beautiful.

Have a great and safe holiday.

  2. Hydrangeas are so exuberant, aren't they - and apparently their colour tells you something about the acidity or otherwise of the soil..

  3. One of my favorites, and instead of having a green thumb growing them, I'm all thumbs!

  4. What wonderful purples! The ones in this part of the country tend to be pink but down in Cornwall (more acidic soil) they are the most stunning array of blues. Check out Hydrangea Dell at Trebah. :o) http://www.rhs.org.uk/Gardens/RHS-Partner-Gardens/Features/Cornish-gardens-for-a-summer-s-day
