Sari Gobbins
It was easy to find Sari -- she's so entranced with bright colors, especially ribbons. Apparently she has caused a kerfuffle among the Piffle group because she just can't resist bright colors. Quite a few of the Piffles are worried that her colorful attire will attract unwanted attention.
Sari Gobbins is not to be deterred however. She is somewhat of an extrovert and sort of a flibbertigibbet -- so she's not afraid of being discovered. This was a treat for me - since she was happy to visit with me. Of course the fact that I brought her a few 'pretties' to wear didn't hurt my cause any!
Fortunately winter doesn't last too long and not many people are out wandering the woods at this time of the year. The trees and bushes and flowers will be back to fill in the woodland spaces and then Sari will blend right in.

'Starr'
The first time I discovered "Starr" she was on her back, looking toward the sky. Whatever is she doing? Perhaps a bit of cloud watching??? No, it turns out that she is enamored with stars -- but had slept the night away and thought she might find a bit of starlight in the early morning. She had seen a sliver of moon once in broad daylight. Why not a star?
Our visit led us into a discussion of stars. She was bumfuzzled because Bibliofile had read to them all about stars and he said that stars are balls of gases held together by their own gravity. Surely she thought they were much more romantic than that. At that point in the reading she broke down in tears and the whole group had to stop the educational process to give Starr several shoulders to cry on.
And so I gave Starr my thoughts on the mysteries of life -- and the perceptions that each of us has. If her perception is that the stars are beautiful shining beacons in the dark sky, why not keep those thoughts? Why not spend her evenings watching the stars as she has in the past? Magic can often be the very best part of our lives and we should hold it close and nurture it. For isn't there a value in living your life through dreams and ideas and fanciful notions?
"When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you
If your heart is in your dreams
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do..."

Summertime Giveaway
"Star Gazing" is looking for new surroundings. She's obviously star stuck and thinks that it would be fun to live with one of my talented blog friends.
I need a little more room here in my studio and she volunteered . How about it - are you interested?
The drawing will be held on Monday, July 7th and she will soon be winging her way to new a home. P.S. This giveaway is open to everyone, even if you've won before.
Isn't this fun???
I cannot even imagine where I would be today were it not for that handful of friends who have given me a heart full of joy. Let's face it, friends make life a lot more fun." - Charles R. Swindoll

Learning As I Go
After wadding up newspaper I covered it with masking tape. The arms and legs were a little bit more of a challenge for me with the legs ending up longer than I had anticipated. But turning up the ends to make feet (for shoes later on?) I found they would be just right.
After that came the paperclay covering - and as you can see by these pictures there is step after step of paperclay for one section has to dry before I can move on to another.
My lesson learned as I kept applying clay, was that this type of figure is going to be very 'irregular'. Its impossible, with this format, to create the same exact doll each and every time. This is a good lesson for me. It gives me freedom to experiment (whether I like it or not) and to not box myself in with the thought that each one of this series should look like the last one. Patience Penny, patience!

"Lucky One"
Hope
you don’t mind but I’ve taken over Penny’s blog posting this morning – shhh she
doesn’t know I’m here.
I thought you might like to know what ‘really’ goes on behind the scenes when she’s creating! I’m the first one of her paperclay figures – so she started off making my head (and two others). There we sat – the three of us – not knowing who would be chosen.

I have to say, it seemed like we waited quite awhile for her to get her act together – but at last she chose me. At first I thought – “oh boy, I’m the lucky one”. Well, let me tell you – I soon changed my mind about that.
We had to go through the whole body and costume design thing together. She and I – me looking at her stoically while she sketched and drew and stitched and stuffed – all the while I’m thinking “maybe I'm not so lucky”. That woman can mutter like nobody’s business – let me tell you. I know I’m complaining but have you ever been the experiment for a master plan? It isn’t fun!!
Finally
we came to end of my journey and I spotted this wooden button that says “Lucky
One” – I told her I just had to have it.
So she obliged and also gave me a really snazzy hat. The next day she walked into her studio
smiling at me – she likes me! So now I
guess I can say that I really am “The Lucky One”. Wonder why she’s keeping me separate from the
other two guys – do you think she doesn’t want me to warn them about what's in store?
By the way, let’s just keep this little conversation between ourselves okay?
