A Treasure Chest

As a child I always wanted to discover a treasure chest filled with glitter and gems. These days, for lack of a real treasure chest I've been creating my very own using a small suitcase type box.

At this point the contents are crowded and simply outgrowing the box.  That of course doesn't discourage me from always adding to it.  I've gathered from my stash all the laces, trims, etc. that had been placed hither and yon in my studio.

One of my very favorite acquisitions is crinkled rayon seam binding.  While I use it in little bits and pieces, I love to just look at all texture and soft colors sitting there waiting for me.

Thanks to a dear friend I've recently added some tatting and vintage handkerchiefs, one of which has gone into the dye pot - turning a beige/pink.  I swear, if I lived alone, I'd have these treasures sitting in the living room as a magnificent display.  However, I suspect most guests would think I am just a messy person (or that I have been shopping way too much).

"Our treasure lies in the beehive of our knowledge.  We are perpetually on the way thither, being by nature winged insects and honey gatherers of the mind". - Friedrich Nietzsche

  2. Lovely, Penny. My lacey pretties are kept in a $2 plastic shoebox from the dollar store that's stored out of sight on the top closet shelf in my crafting room. I like your display much better, and the living room sounds perfect to me!

  3. Oh Wow! The wonderful thing about the way you store your treasures is that you can touch and feel as you sort through them searching for the bit you remember you have.

Me, I must have mine organized and wound and layered nicely in plastic drawers so I can see at a glance what I want to use. I'm missing so much!!

  4. Once again, you have made me smile, Penny. I have bowls and saucers and dishes all over the house filled with my 'treasures' which include pine cones, acorns, rocks, snail shells, lichens, bits of bark, and anything else I can carry in in my pockets!! Lucky, I have a very easy going husband :)))

  5. What a gorgeous treasure box. One of my favourite stories as a child was about a little girl whose elderly neighbour lent her a special box when she was ill, which was filled with treasures. I could see it so clearly from the descriptions and I always wanted one!
