"The Sounds of Silence"

It is time to hibernate, cocoon, find my 'quiet place' and nurture myself. Seeking silence, seeking quiet, seeking peace and harmony.

I'm sure part of it is the time of year because when I look back at past years' postings I find there were always one or two 'silence', 'quietude' posts and usually they occurred in the late fall, early winter.

Fortunately blogging is a 'quiet' treasure so don't worry -- I'll still be here whispering to you.

“A quiet mind is all you need. All else will happen rightly, once your mind is quiet. As the sun on rising makes the world active, so does self-awareness effect changes in the mind. In the light of calm and steady self-awareness inner energies wake up and work miracles without effort on your part.” - Sri-Wisargadatta

  1. Silence. WHERE do you FIND it? Even when I take the dogs out at 3 AM the world is not silent. During the winter I find less noise at that particular time of day.

Often I am in the living room with no TV on. Terry asks why the TV is not on. I ask why does the TV HAVE to be on.

I like the quote. I guess in truth the mind never rests, don't you think?

  2. One of my all-time favorite songs! I'm with Carol, the TV does *not* have to be on. I should start using our living room for a silent retreat, I guess. Only problem with winter hibernation and nurturing is I don't get enough exercise.

  3. such lovely photos-and you're right-there does seem to be a season or two that we depend on real quietness to get us through the day to day living. It's also helpful for artists-maybe artist's blocks aren't so awful after all! But I hope your silent time is full of art-making!

  4. I know some folks have to have background noise even when they aren't paying attention to it. I enjoy silence...but right now I am listening to a rather soothing swish-swish sound from the washing machine. :)

  5. I think quiet goes with frost and fog - and therefore with autumn and winter...

  6. Feels like you're very in tune with the seasons. Always good to be quiet, especially hurtling towards Christmas!
