What should I find atop the book shelf but another Unlikely. I’m a book lover and it seemed that she might
be a kindred soul.
Sure enough I soon
found out that “Quite” Unlikely had decided to read her way through all the
books on the shelves. However, she was worried because some of them might
not be of any interest to her at all – or she might not understand them due to
their esoteric subject matter. I didn't want to admit to her that I myself had that same thought when I was in high school
– to start at the “a's” and work my way through the stacks. Of course it was a short lived dream, as I
recall ending somewhere still on the first shelf.
However, I did have an idea for “Quite”. I took out my large dictionary (especially
large to her) and sat her down atop it. "If you read this one book, all the way through, its quite likely that you will learn all you need to know".
I left
her studying the pages – I do so
hope she gets further along than I did in the library.
"The more you read, the more things you will know,
The more you learn, the more places you'll go."

Lol, the last photo makes me smile! It gives her life as she appears to be actually reading! She is so cute, and of course I love her color-coordinated buttons. What are you using to make the hair? The little felted hat looks adorable. Well done, and I suspect she could win the Unlikely Beauty Contest!
ReplyDeleteI always love the detail on your fanciful little creatures! The hat is such a perfect touch.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, she is so cute...I especially like her garters...very unique and as Unlikely as she is. You are very wise to introduce her to the dictionary. Learning the meaning of all the spoken words surely opens her mind to the world. But learning how to spell and pronounce them....well that is also so marvelous!!

I agree with all the above, I like the Dr Seuss quote as well, unfortunately these days it doesn't work for me I forget stuff I've read all the time.
ReplyDeleteLove her, such an elegant but bookish young lady.
ReplyDeletePerhaps when she is done with the dictionary, she will be better able to understand what she reads in other books! :) I usually keep a dictionary handy when reading anyway, as I am sure to come across a word whose meaning I am not certain of.
ReplyDeleteThere is someone who's read the OED from end to end, and written a book about it. Maybe "Quite" could read his book, so she doesn't have to...
ReplyDeleteShe is 'Quite' adorable, especially the way she appears to be studying that page!
ReplyDelete...and if she does get through it...
ReplyDelete...that will be "quite" an achievement!!
She's lovely :-)
