Feeling Grey

I don't know whether its because we've had a lot of grey, overcast days interspersed with rain lately -- or because many of my morning walks seem to be into the fog -- but I've become smitten with the color grey.

I feel myself being drawn to these misty, soft shades of grey with perhaps a little bit of soft blue or lavender thrown in.  Usually this is a light, bright tones time of the year - but I keep thinking of the softness of grey and its counterparts and I am drawn into its mystery and magic.

Recently I went to a Quilt Shop Hop where I seriously looked for grey fat quarters and the other day I spent a beautiful hour in the "Asheville Cotton" store where I searched out shades of grey to add to my collection.

I'm not sure what I'll do with all these fog, mist, ocean, clouds, steam, smoke shades but here they lay ready and waiting.

The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

  1. One of my very favorite poems by one of my VERY favorite poets.

I am not too fond of grey, but like it with pink. And I like how you have added a bit of lavender in your scheme. What are you making?

  2. I have loved gray for years. It's a nice backdrop for just about any colour and can be quite interesting all on its own too.

  4. Grey is one of those fluid colours that can have a huge variety of overtones, so there's a lot you can do with those materials!

  5. One of my very favorite color palettes...so much c.a.l.m.
Late last year I was working on a personal project with grey scraps...needed a variety so took myself to the thrifts looking for some. My oh my, was grey clothing hard to find (except for men's crunchy business shirts, bleh). I also discovered the wide range of *warm* greys vs. *cool* greys...such as in bead selection. And threads were extremely difficult...

Still, I adore the greys ~ all of them! Can't wait to see what you get up to next, Penny...

  6. And we have another thing in common: gray. It's one of my favorite colors. It's where I live (both figuratively and literally). Figuratively because I am downright chaotic and ever-shifting as compared to my engineer, linear husband and literally because we live atop a mountain in the South. Some days the fog and clouds just never make it down the mountain or over to another mountain or wherever it is they go when they melt or move on.
