My second, third or fourth childhood

Lately I've been roaming the aisles of the children's section at my local library.  What a treasure trove of literature!

I got started because I wanted to use some 'rabbit' quotations on some of my blog postings.  Indeed there have been a lot of wonderful 'rabbit' books written over time.

Many of them classics, such as: "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", "The Velveteen Rabbit", "Winnie the Pooh" and of course "Alice in Wonderland".  Sometimes the rabbit is the hero, other times he's the bystander.

As I wandered the aisles I thought, "why not add a couple of these to my book pile?"  Why not take myself back to the 8-year-old girl who read everything she could get her hands on and spent many a quiet summer afternoon curled up in a chair moving through words to a magical, mystical, elsewhere?  Why not?

"Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again." - C.S. Lewis

  1. I read a lot too. I don't remember reading any of these classics. I NEVER read Alice..go figure. I think my love of books started when I was a little older. I wonder how old I was when I could walk to the Library. I spent plenty of time there. I remember browsing through the teen room. funny
    Happy Weekend!!

  2. All wonderful, wonderful books. Read them to my three grown children when they were little, will read them to my two grandchildren, now. And and of course, I love bunnies and have them out even when it's not Easter ;-)

  4. I have always loved to read, and now it seems I don't have the time to read like I used to. at one time I was sure I was going to be a writer when I grew up. Oh well, maybe I'm not grown up yet!

  5. I used to read all of the books you show to my children I think The Velveteen Rabbit is my favourite. I still read childrens books occasionally especially teenage fantasy, not the vampire/horror type but the fairy story type.

  6. vintage children's books are my absolute favorite. I have quite a collection of them now. They have always been a sweet and innocent refuge from the world - a comforting and beautiful place to escape the meanies ;)

  9. Some of my favorites! I've always thought that the very best children's books are those that adults can read over and over to a child and enjoy it every time. That kind of book really has no age limit!

  10. Hey thanks for the C.S. Lewis leading --- he's next on my list. I love the simple messages -- using beautiful language.
