Winter Solstice

Winter has come a bit early this year - beginning just before Thanksgiving.

A lacy looking bench changes the landscape with just a little bit of snow.

Although water is still running here - this little grotto pond doesn't look at all like itself.  Are the toads buried deep in the mud below - trying to stay warm?

Nature has outlined the bricks on this path - making it look like the path on a board game.

"In a way, winter is the real spring, the time when the inner changes happen, the resurgence of nature." - Edna O'Brien

[To each of you a Happy Holiday -- I'll be back after Christmas.]

  1. I really like the idea of winter as the real spring - somehow very encouraging and optimistic.
... And a Happy Christmas to you. May the true spring come fast!

  2. We had our FIRST snow of the season this morning, Penny and I am loving all the white *cloth* laid over everything ;>]]

Top of the season to you, my blog friend!

  3. Lovely, evocative pictures and a very special Solstice and Christmas to you and yours, Penny. See you in the New Year!

  4. Winter is my favorite season. Love this post and love the quote. Thank you.

  5. And a happy holiday to you too. Many gorgeous scenes for you to enjoy...

  6. You certainly can't tell the season by the weather anymore. We had 6 inches of snow, followed by 2 days of rain, 5 days before Christmas. I don't want to blink or it might change back to snow! I hate winter and await warmer days spent outside.

    Merry Christmas!

  7. The shortest day here in Bath UK was very dark and you really felt a shift in energy.
But.....today is bright sunshine, cold but what a difference to yesterday!

love your winter photos,I and wish you a Merry Xmas and a Happy, Peaceful New Year.
