Silly Me

In the past, my work has tended toward the muted, often aged, darker colors.  Perhaps I thought it would make my work seem more serious.  I'm not sure why I would even want to be 'more' serious -- that was for the time of my life when I was studying, working, being a 'responsible' adult.

These days - while my age gets older, my mind gets younger.  'Let's celebrate' is more often my call these days rather than my earlier, traditional 'let's think about it'!

I won't say that 'serious' colors and themes won't crop up now and then - but for awhile I'm going to play - perhaps even be a bit silly.

"Mix a little foolishness with your serious plans.  It is lovely to be silly at the right moment." - Horace

  2. I've just found your fun website there I said it fun, but not silly! Having fun is what it's all about for those of us lucky enough not to have to earn a living while we play ...

  3. ...oh, Penny! I'm loving your new "happy" lighter, brighter color palette you are working with! Cannot wait to see what the finished piece is...you have a great talent for putting "good" colors together!

  4. Charlton - thank you for stopping by - it allowed me to look at your blog (which I've added to my favorites). Yes, I'm very, very fortunate that I am at a point where I can play and have fun with no worries about what comes out or even what I'll do with it once finished.

  5. O Yay!! Yay!! Yay!! I LOVE color!! I used to lean toward darks and jewel tones in every level of life but then along came that Pantome color chart that listed Hot Pink as a color for the season and MAN!! I turned from "don't be caught with pink" to give me More Heat!! I love your new color scheme and can't wait to see what you will do with it.

  6. Permission to play. What more do you need?! The words we use put value judgements on what we do, so I'm always very wary of using loaded words like 'silly'. What we do is good, as long as we enjoy it and it hurts no one.:o)

  7. It's an advantage of growing older that you don't necessarily believe you have to take yourself seriously all the time!
