Farewell Autumn

We are officially into Winter now - but I'm behind the times, letting Autumn stay a little longer in my studio.

I crave the warm colors of Fall as Winter brings with it bare branchs, grey days, dampness and cold.

At least now I have a remnant of that most favorite season of mine.

"Spring passes and one remembers one's innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one's exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one's reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one's perseverance." -
Yoko Ono

  1. This is a stunning piece and the button is really to die for. If I had seen it, I would have bought 2, just in case. Just in case? Why? I don't know but DO that when I love something. It's a great compliment to this piece.

Autumn IS gone, but somehow hangs on here just a bit with roller coaster temperatures and precipitation teetering between snow and rain. And Terry officially pulled the plug on my Christmas lights.

    Have an absolutely wonderful day.

  7. I'#ve enjoyed all these little pieces, the colours and simple shapes, and of course, the buttons! I'd be fascinated to know how they're made.
    Happy New Year!

    1. These little hangings are made using punchneedle. I use both regular punchneedle and reverse punchneedle for texture. I use linen or good cotton as the base and punch through that. Once the design is punched I back it with stiff interfacing and then do the decorating. Each of the 'found objects' are things I've had around here 'forever'. I used the same fabric for the backing (which is left plain) and hand stitch the pieces together. Oh, I have used ribbons and cording and such wrapping it together and then zig zag it into a cord. If anyone has any questions or would like a more in depth explanation, please contact me at artjourney@att.net I'll be glad to answer any questions. - Penny

  8. Love this one and all of your work. Is it punch needle? Hand stitch? I have so enjoyed following your blog for years - and your tenacity, dedication to finishing the job beautifully and simply the joy that is evident in your work... an artist's artist you are!
