Taking The Leap

Hey - who added an extra day onto my year?  We can thank the Gregorian Calendar for this situation.  Because the Gregorian calendar has only 365 day in a year and if we don't add a day on February 29th nearly every four years we would lose almost six hours off our calendar every year and after only 100 years, our calendar would be off by approximately 24 days!

Yikes -- being off 24 days would be a lot more confusing than adding one day every four years.  Certainly the  hours and days go by quickly enough as it is.  I couldn't imagine losing 24 days.  Come to think of it, if I live to be 100 an extra 24 hours  probably wouldn't matter.

So like my friend above I will leap ahead into March - using this extra day of the year to have some fun.  Yes, I could use it to do something really useful - but then it wouldn't really be a great leap.

"When in doubt make a fool of yourself.  There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth.  So what the hell, leap." - Cynthia Heimel

  5. My grandson told me yesterday that he read that if we didn't have leap year, it would now be July 2017. I'm good with Leap Year..I really am. So what that they add a day to the year every 4 years. Heck, they add an hour to my day ever Fall and then take it away in the Spring. But my question is if they were going to add a day to the calendar, why the heck isn't it in the middle of the year...or at the end when we need an extra day to recuperate from the holidays. Ahhh, I am forever asking questions that have no answers. Maybe I should Google that!!

Happy March 1. It's windy and rainy switching to snow later today. So I guess that sets it "In Like a Lion".

    xx, Carol
