Letters from Home

I'm a hopeless romantic when it comes to the postal service and receiving mail -- I mean the old fashioned, hand-written kind of course.  Do you know how difficult it is to even find  a postcard these days?

"Letters from Home" is my way of honoring the lost art of letter writing.  With each panel, and help from my ever present 'stash of stuff' I tried to convey what it means to get a letter from someone who has taken the time to sit down, write from their heart and send it along to me.

Each stitch brought forth memories when our mailbox entertained cards and letters - packages and pictures.  Those days are behind us -- but this is my small way of keeping the thought alive.

  1. Yes, you are so right. A mailed letter is special. My niece made some bad choices and is on a little vacation courtesy of the State of Indiana. I write to her very often. They are limited in what they can receive so I can't to artsy things to send. I look for blank cards with pictures on the front that I can make up a story about. It's always as if it is a picture from the family album and a "do you remember" kind of thing. At least she can look forward to something in the mail, not just bills like me!

    I love your pieces.

  3. I recently found letters I received when I was a student - my word, we were a chatty lot! My email correspondance isn't anything like as entertaining, with one or two honourable exceptions. You've created a charming tribute to something which is almost a lost way of life!

  5. Well, of course I Love letters...and these are especially beautiful. Every so often someone I deliver mail to gets a beautiful envelope in the mail along with all the bills and advertisements, I just know how special it must make them feel. I don't send nearly enough real mail. Must remedy that!
