Paths

How many paths have I taken in my life?  So many that some are only vague memories, others have disappeared completely.  And yet, here I am, taking another one.

One thing about creating -- it lets me take new and wonderful paths without even leaving my studio.  At this time I've gone back to a path from the past.  That's not all bad.  I know my way better this time, although even an old path can lead you into new discoveries.

My husband has created several small paths here in our yard and I love to walk them, even though many of them are only a few steps long.

"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives." - Henry David Thereau

  1. I love your introspective musings! They always include many things I have zoomed right by. I had a batch of flat rocks like in your last photo and decided to arrange them in a "path" of sorts from an area I call my "meditation garden" back towards our woods. I didn't have enough rocks to make it a wide path so it's more like one rock after another meandering back toward the trees. Funny, I didn't know quite where to end it, so I stopped it in front of a bunny hutch that has been empty since our 30 year old daughter was 10. Maybe fate is telling me there's a bunny who needs a home! :)

  2. Wonderful photos of your garden paths. We all tend to enjoy wandering--both physically and mentally--along intriguing paths!

  3. You have me thinking. Looking back, I don't think I ever forethought any path I took in life. I made some really BAD choices then analyzed not what went wrong buy WHY I made those choices. HOWEVER, I am always creating material paths. We have a 3/4 acre back yard. I have created paths TO places in the yard..to the back garage, around the pond, to the gas meter under the kitchen window, to Corey's window so the air conditioner can be installed/ removed from the window without stepping on flowers. It's aa form of organization in my material world that I can't seem to carry into the intangibles.

  8. How timely: your reflection on "paths" and my recent post on "companions along the journey"... Happy travels, however long (or short) the path may be!
